Hate has no place in Indianapolis. Under my administration, our office launched the Marion County Bias Crimes Hotline, the first in Indiana, giving victims an opportunity to report such instances and receive support.
By providing this hotline and support through a victim advocate, I believe we can reduce the reporting barriers and improve law enforcement’s response and support for victims of these crimes. Knowing that language access can be a barrier for reporting any crime, the hotline provides translation services to ensure equitable access.
Building awareness is the first step in helping victims. That’s why I regularly meet with community members to share information about Indiana’s hate crime law, why reporting is important, and how to support victims of these incidents.
As your prosecutor, I will continue to stand up to hate in our community.
